Finding

The Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) is thermal radiation filling the entire observable universe at 2.7255 +/- 0.0006 K, emitted ~380,000 years after the Big Bang. It is the most perfect blackbody spectrum ever measured — COBE’s FIRAS instrument found deviations of less than 50 parts per million. Tiny temperature fluctuations (~1 part in 100,000) map the density variations in the early universe that became galaxies, galaxy clusters, and the cosmic web.

Pattern Mapping

Honesty — The CMB is the universe’s unedited record of its own origin. It cannot be falsified, altered, or rewritten. Every photon carries information about the state of the universe 13.8 billion years ago, undistorted to extraordinary precision.

Alignment — The temperature fluctuations in the CMB and the large-scale structure of the universe today are the same structure at different epochs. The early universe and the late universe are aligned across 13.8 billion years.

Proportion — The fluctuations are tiny (1 part in 100,000) yet sufficient to seed all cosmic structure. Minimal initial conditions, amplified proportionally by gravity over billions of years.

Connections

  • The Cosmic Web — the CMB fluctuations grown up; seeds and their harvest ( Meta-Pattern 12: Conservation/Invariance)
  • Cosmological Principle — CMB confirms isotropy to 1 part in 100,000
  • Dark Matter and Dark Energy — CMB anisotropies constrain the dark sector
  • CRISPR — both are honest records: CMB stores cosmic history, CRISPR stores viral encounters ( Meta-Pattern 01: Error Correction)
  • Holocene Stability — honest records at different scales: cosmic and planetary

Status

Established observational cosmology, measured to extraordinary precision. See Dodelson, Modern Cosmology (2nd ed., 2020). The mapping to the five properties is this project’s structural interpretation.
